Blakedown were delighted to attend the ground breaking ceremony for the brand new 8-lane all weather athletics track, discus cage and football pitches at Woodcote High School in Surrey.
The £750,000 Track Coulsdon development has been in planning for many years and finally got off the ground just a week before London 2012.
“It will however be the equal of anything at Stratford, said head teacher, Mark Southworth. There could be no better Olympics legacy for the district than these superb new facilities that would encourage local youngsters to take up sport”
Other attendees included representatives from Sport England, part of the Inspired Facility Olympic Legacy programme, Football Foundation, Mayor of London, Coulsdon Cluster of Schools and The London Marathon Charitable Trust who all contributed to the funding of the project.
South London Harriers who will be based at the new track also donated to the state of the art facility.
Blakedown were awarded the project following a successful tender process, work started on site in July and was completed during spring 2013.
