Hartpury College 3G Rugby Pitches
Hartpury College employed Blakedown Sport and Play to resurface an existing sand-filled surface with an Edel Nature LSR 65mm 3rd generation rubber crumb surface meeting the requirements of the International Rugby Board (IRB) Performance Specification.
The construction of this rugby warm-up area was installed on an existing engineered base with a shockpad and complete with lines for football and rugby and rugby post sockets.
Hartpury College’s Sports Facility Manager, Chris Crichton says, “It’s a fantastic playing surface allowing full contact training without the worry of burns or unplayable pitches. The surface gives a consistent bounce and is playable throughout the year. A great training addition, raising the standards across our Sports Academy”.
Blakedown were back at Hartpury in January 2011 after being successfully chosen out of nine tenders received by the college with works were completed in April.
The existing surface was an old grass golf range.
The new facility comprises of a new 3G rugby Edel Touchdown 65mm carpet with 20mm in-situ rubber shockpad installed on a 50mm engineered macadam base. Fencing & floodlights completed the £500,000 project and again the surface meets IRB reg 22 specification.

Blakedown have handed over the 3 artificial multi use pitches to Kimberley Leisure Centre following a resurface of the worn sand-dressed multi use pitches.
Following a competitive open tender procedure Blakedown removed and safely disposed of the old sand-dressed carpet then carried out remedial repairs to the in-situ shock pads on all 3 areas.
The new iDNA 50 3rd Generation monofilament carpet from FIFA preferred producer Desso was laid to all the pitches, which the council will arrange to be independently tested to FIFA playing standards.
The pitches accommodate 3 × 7-a-side football, 3 × 5-a-side and full 11-a-side football.

Blakedown Sport & Play have completed extensive sport facility work at the Brand new UCE Academy in Wirral.
A new full size 3G for football & 5-a-side was constructed onto a dynamic base using and Edel Superblade Duo 60mm monofilament carpet.
4m High weldmesh fencing and 6 floodlight columns completed the ATP.
A four court tarmac Multi-Use Games Area for tennis & Netball was built plus a polymeric long jump straight.
Numerous items of sporting apparatus were also supplied from weighted football & 5-a-side goals to pitch dividing nets & netball posts.
Once completed the pitch was used to break a Guinness World record for the largest man made poppy, formed with nearly 2000 students and teachers from the Academy.

Contract Value: £390’000Southgate Hockey Club Double Pitch Resurface
Blakedown Sport & Play are very proud to have been involved with the refurbishment of the two existing pitches at Southgate Hockey Club in Hertfordshire.
The high specification Edel Triple-T carpet was chosen for both the water-based and sand-dressed pitches which offers a high ball speed with good grip and low friction, ideal for competition level hockey.
The Edel Triple T Global standard water-based pitch also had the in-situ rubber shockpad replaced so providing the best playing characteristics possible. New kerbs and drainage channels were also constructed around the pitch.
The second worn sand-filled pitch was replaced with the Edel Triple T sand-dressed option, providing a multi-use facility so as the club can continue to hire out to local football clubs and teams.
Blakedown utilised their in-house skills with a design and build scheme for the surrounding pitch areas which included recycling the existing carpet around the club for spectator areas and walkways, and installing high specification paving and decking areas around the clubhouse.

Blakedown Landscapes have completed soft landscaping works at the prestigious development Charters in Ascot, Berkshire.
This high profile estate also closely neighbouring Royal Windsor was once a 1920’s Art Deco Grade II listed building, the new landscape therefore had to be in keeping. New shrub beds were created along with extensive tree and shrub planting across the estate.
Over 200 metres of instant hedging was planted ranging from 1.2m high up to 1.8 high, along the hedging new automatic drip line irrigation was also installed.Finally the construction of a bespoke metal screen enclosing two of the new properties was installed; the metal trellis fixings were designed by Blakedown with the unique trellis designed by Enplan Architects. Further to this over 40 bespoke planters were built and planted giving a privacy screen to the communal areas.
The works also include 12 months maintenance.

Refurbishment of Victorian gardens carried out on the site of a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
The works comprised the construction of new paths and refurbishment of existing ones, which were surfaced with a Coxwell self-binding gravel. Metal gates and railings were constructed/refurbished and new seats and litter bins installed. Soft landscaping comprised topsoiling and tree and shrub planting. The old abbey foundations were marked by the laying of Yorkstone setts. All works that required excavation were supervised by an archaeologist.

Blakedown installed a new full size FIH hockey pitch, resurfaced their existing sand-filled full size pitch both complete with fencing and floodlighting as well as undertaking a large landscaping and natural pitch scheme across the campus.

The construction of a wide variety of sports facilities and landscaping at Ryelands Estate.
Works included:
- Installation of a 30m x 18m porous macadam multi-use games area for five-a-side football and basketball, with a 3m-high perimeter weldmesh fence and 1.2m rebound boards.
- A skatepark, including two 9m-diameter concrete bowls with grind rails.
- A junior play area with a pre-formed, safety-tiled surface with play equipment such as swings, a spring ride, spring seesaw, whirl and fun trial.
- A vast amount of landscaping and planting of shrubs plus tarmac footpaths,. The whole site was enclosed with 1.2m bowtop perimeter fencing.
